| The
broad based curriculum we offer is designed to develop fully the capabilities of
every child. High, realistic
academic standards are encouraged by the appropriate use of group, class and
individual teaching methods.
|
|
|
| Team teaching is a feature of the education service we
offer. The size of our roll,
however, means that this may not happen at every stage of our school.
We do, however, use the skills and strengths of our teaching staff to
give pupils the opportunity of extending and improving talents and creative
abilities.

|
English Language
|
|
The school implements the National 5-14 Guidelines in
all areas of the curriculum.
In reading, which is one aspect of our Language Development Programme we
make a selective use of a variety of books.
Some of the text books which we use are – Oxford Reading Tree, Collins
Primary English, Developing Comprehension, Directions, New Treasury of English,
Literacy World and selected novels.
|
| Mathematics
|
| Our programme incorporates the use of several texts;
work cards; and problem solving approaches.
An example of these are, Heinemann Mathematics, Cambridge Maths; Ginn
Investigations and Puzzles; On the Track Problem Solving.
There is also emphasis on practical activities, group investigations and mental agility.
|
| Environmental Studies |
| In Environmental Studies we incorporate the study of
Social Subjects, Technology, Science and the study of the local environs of the
school. These studies give our
children the opportunity of using in a more meaningful context the skills and
concepts taught in other areas of the curriculum.
We have a fully equipped Computer Room to help deliver the ICT programme.
We consider ICT to be a valuable asset in extending the learning opportunities
of our pupils at every stage of the school from Primaries 1 to Primary 7.
|
| Health
|
| The promotion of health through the curriculum is
important for our pupils’ well-being and recently we have invited health
professionals and sports specialists to work with our pupils as part of a
‘Health Week’.
This project was so successful that it will appear as an annual event on our
calendar.
|
| Religious and Moral Education
|
| This allows us to teach pupils to value diversity.
The education programme concentrates on four of the world’s major
religions as advocated in the national guidelines.
In Braidbar the religions studied are Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and
Hinduism.
|
| Personal and Social Development
|
| An on-going focus within the curriculum is each
child’s personal and social development.
We use every opportunity to develop confidence and high self-esteem in
our pupils through various means, e.g. Citizenship, Enterprise and Creativity
education.
|
| Expressive Arts
|
| Drama, music, art and physical education are vitally
important subjects in the curriculum to develop our pupils’ well-being and
enjoyment of life.
Theatre companies visit on a regular basis often with a health or historical
theme and at Christmas there is usually a pantomime.
|
| French
|
| Pupils
in Braidbar learn French in Primary 1 and this continues until pupils
leave at the end of Primary 7.
