What is an Eco School?

This is a programme for promoting environmental awareness in a way that links to most curriculum areas. It works by involving the whole school together with members of the local community.

It concentrates on seven key environmental areas.

  • Litter
  • Waste Minimisation
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Transport
  • Health and well-Being
  • School grounds

As part of the award, a committee must be set up to audit current practise and prepare and monitor an action plan over the school session.

The committee should include pupils, teachers, support staff, parents and ideally, the janitor too.

The committee meet every 2-4 weeks during the session and promote Eco friendly initiatives into the school and community.
