S5 Mentoring Programme

This week sees the start of week 3 of the Mentoring Programme. Please ensure that you have reminded yourself of when and where you are meeting with your mentor. You may have an appointment for your options interview. During this week, the priority first of all goes to Options interview and then followed-up by re-joining your mentoring group.

Help Our School to Recycle

The Big Mobile Raffle
We are still looking for your old mobile phones! Bring your old mobile phones to E3 and pick up a raffle ticket to win the opportunity for a free ski/snowboarding lesson and a £20 gift certificate.

Plastic Bottles
We will soon be collecting 2l plastic bottles to start constructing our greenhouse built out of recycled bottles – so don’t throw any away as we will need at least 1000

S1 France Watersports Trip 2010

The date for the final payment for the trip has changed to Monday 19th April.

Payments can be handed to Mr. Gibson or Mrs Neil at the PE Department at morning interval

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Congratulations to all pupils who have recently achieved their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Their hard work over the last year has resulted in them undertaking volunteer work, taking part in a physical activity of their choice and also developing an existing skill or taking up a new hobby. The final part of the award involved the pupils taking part in a walking expedition over two weekends in Loch Lomond National Park.

Music Performance Evening

On Thursday 18th March at 7:00pm there will be a short concert to 'Celebrate the Success' of S4 and S5 music pupils.

The event will take place in the school theatre and its free!

Come along to hear a great selection of pieces from their performance programmes

Interfaith Event

Last Friday Mearns Castle hosted its first Interfaith Event. This event brought leaders from many different faiths including Judaism, Islam, Sikh, Catholic, Protestant, B'hai and Humanism to share their faith wiith a group of Social subject and RMPS pupils.

The Sound of Music

Mearns Castle is putting on 'The Sound of Music' as our school show in June. We have been recording some of the rehearsals. Below is week two of the rehearsals. (Week one is in our Mearns TV).

 

The Backpack Appeal

Tuesday 2nd March 2010
The Backpack Appeal needs your help! We are in desperate need of new or used backpacks. Some other items that we really need more of are:

Pens, Crayons, Erasers, Rulers, Pencil Cases, Towels, Flip Flops/Sandals, Small balls, eg tennis balls, Soap, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Spoons.

REMEMBER – used backpacks must be in good condition. They don’t have to be expensive items. Single items may be handed in rather than the full backpack. Please don’t put in extra toys or treats as these can cause problems with customs.

MONEY DONATIONS ARE ALSO ACCEPTED.

S2 Option Forms - The deadline for returning your signed S2 Option Form has now passed. You must ensure it is brought to your Pupil Support Adviser immediately as subject choice may not now be guaranteed

The Jewish Lunch Club will meet on Thursday 11 March in the Conference Room. We will have the usual informal lunch and chat with our visiting rabbis. On this occasion we will also be joined by Rabbi Wayland, the Student Chaplain who would love to meet S5 and S6 Jewish students in an effort to make contact before they go to university. Let Madame Naddell know if you wish to attend.

A substantial amount of lost property has now appeared on the pegs outside the dining hall. This will be cleared by the janitors on Friday 12 March. If you have lost any clothing in the school please check the area outside the dining hall and reclaim it before this date as, shortly after the remaining items are collected in, they will be given to a deserving charity.

London Trip- The third instalment of £50 is now due. Please get this to Miss Borland asap. There are still a number of pupils who have not picked up their payment receipts. Please do so now.

Any S6 pupil interested in completing the referee qualification during school time must meet Mr Harvey in the PE Department at morning interval Monday 22nd.

Junior Choir rehearsals are on a Thursday lunchtime in Room C3. We are currently looking for some new members. Anyone from S1,2 or 3 who would like to come and join in would be made most welcome!

As from Monday 22 February there will be a cash only healthy tuck shop available in the Open Area where pupils who are having a packed lunch can purchase healthy snack items and drinks without having to queue at the main till points.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Reminder that the next training session will take place on Saturday 20 February at 9.15am till 12noon. If you are unable to attend you must inform Mr Hutchison by Wednesday of this week.
