Climate Change Conference

In December S2 pupils in Social Subjects took part in their own Climate Change Conference. Groups of pupils represented countries of the World and put forward their view on what their country should be doing to reduce climate change. They were also the first Mearns Castle pupils to take part in a live GLOW video conference with BBC weather presenter Heather Reid. Below is a video of the day.

Congratulations

Congratulations to all the athletes who took part in the Scottish Schools Indoor Track and Field Championships last Thursday. Many of the athletes gained personal bests and competed superbly.

Special congratulations, in particular, to Laura McCracken (under 16 girls’ 60m) and Andrew Russell (over 16 boys’ high jump) who both gained silver and Jamie Gemmell who came third in the boys’ under 16 high jump. As always, the standard was exceptionally high.

Rugby 6 Nations Cup

The original Royal Bank of Scotland 6 Nations Rugby Cup is coming to Mearns Castle High School on Wednesday. The cup will be set up in the open area which will allow everyone to view it and take pictures of it.

£2700 Raised For Haiti!

Friday 5th February 2010
Mearns Castle pupils and staff raised over £2700 today for UNICEF's appeal for the children of Haiti. The' Scotland for Haiti' theme saw pupils and staff getting involved in many fund raising activities during the day.

We are still happy to accept donation next week!

BBC Radio Scotland

Six pupils from Mearns Castle are took take part in today's Radio Scotland lunchtime current affairs programme - 'The Big Debate'. The pupils, Claudia Kirkwood, Stephanie Ross, Rory Buchanan, Gabriel Ross, Megan Daly & Emily Wolfson were part of the audience and got to ask questions and offer points during the debate.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Reminder that the next training session will take place on Saturday 20 February at 9.15am till 12noon. If you are unable to attend you must inform Mr Hutchison by Wednesday of this week.

The first Italian Club of 2010 will take place this Friday 22 January at 12.40 pm in D5. Can’t wait to see all the regulars and new members are always very welcome.
