Charities at Mearns Castle
What is Charities Week?
Charities Week is the school’s main charity fundraising endeavour of the year. Various events are held during the week, with the main focus being the variety shows that take place in the theatre each lunchtime featuring pupils and staff. We normally also have a range of other events which, in past years, have included ‘Pie the Teacher’, Beat the Goalie, Nail Painting, Magic Tricks, Van de Graph Generator Experience, Raffles, Tombola, Book and CD stall etc. Individual classes and class teachers often arrange a fundraising activity during the week as well and there is usually a non-uniform day on the Friday when pupils (and staff) have to pay £1 if they choose not to wear uniform that day.
Last year’s total came to over £7000, which, I’m sure you’ll agree, is quite a considerable sum. Once all the money has been gathered together, the pupils themselves decide which charities are to benefit, with each year group having its own allocation of money from the overall purse. Charities are then chosen through the Pupils’ Council.
Charities Week starts on Monday 26th October. Below are some of the final arrangements.
Lunchtime Shows - Tickets are still on sale today and tomorrow at lunchtime. There only a few left and they will be sold on a first come- first served basis until they are all gone. Please be quick if you want to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £1.50 each. Please note that tickets will be sold in the Drama Room opposite the Main theatre on the ramp corridor today and tomorrow.
Performers in Lunchtime Shows - a reminder to all performers that you MUST make contact with the teachers in charge of your day to tell them that you are still ok for taking part and also to give them your backing CD, if you are using one.
S6 Slave Auction - This takes place today and tomorrow at lunchtime in the Lecture Theatre. You need to bring along your money and make your bid(s) for the S6 pupil of your choice. If you make the highest bid, that S6 pupil will be your slave for a day during Charities Week.
5-a-Side Football Tournament - Today is your last chance to enter a team for next week's 5-a-side football tournament. You can register at the football table in the Open Area at morning interval or lunchtime. As soon as we get 16 teams, all having paid their entrance fee (£1 per player), the tournament is closed. Please note that all fees have to be paid before teams can be registered. Watch out for the fixture lists, which will be put up on Friday - you need to know if you will be playing on Monday. Remember, players, it's indoor football kit for all games. Anyone wishing to spectate at the tournament can simply turn up to the Games Hall on Monday lunchtime. Admission fee is 50p per day.
High Fives Rally - Great News !! The High Fives Rally has been extended to include entrance to the 'Golden Ticket' raffle. Anyone who purchases a ticket to participate in the High Fives Rally will automatically be entered in the 'Golden Ticket' raffle. The winner of the 'Golden Ticket' goes to the top of the lunch queue between now and next Spring Holiday, along with a friend of their choosing. So come on, pay your £2 entry for the High Fives Rally and you could also win this great prize. All those who have already entered the High Fives Rally will automatically be included in the 'Golden Ticket' raffle. Tickets can be purchased today and tomorrow at the special table in the Open Area.
Keep watching the plasma TVs and keep looking out for the special notices which will be going out all next week to let you know what is going on each day during Charities Week.
