Sports Day
The weather was kind to us! The children had a fantastic time!
All who attended - mums, dads, grans, granddads, aunts, uncles and many
more had thoroughly enjoyed the day. The children
participated in all the events and there was a real feeling
of togetherness. Well done everyone! |
| The OLM Girls' Football Teams competed with
three other school in the East Renfrewshire Girls' Football tournament
held at Netherlee Primary School. The two teams performed very
well and finished 1st and 3rd overall. |

Barrhead and Eastwood Rotary Club Quiz The
annual inter schools Rotary Quiz was held in the school on Wednesday
19th May. Fraser, Cameron, Sean and Flora from Primary 7
represented the school and enjoyed taking part. They would like to
congratulate Eaglesham Primary on winning the trophy. |
Chris Hoy Challenge
As part of the Chris Hoy Challenge Primary 7 are attempting to cycle
the distance from John O'Groats to Lands End in the space of 5 days.
The children have mapped their route and estimated the time and distance
it will take. They have been pedalling hard and have had the help
of their teachers to achieve their goal.

First Communion
Our Primary 4 pupils have been celebrating their First Holy
Communion in our local parishes of St Vincent's, Holy Name and St
Joseph's, the final group at St Joseph's Church on Saturday 22nd May. |
Curriculum Afternoons
The Curriculum Afternoons have been very successful. They allowed
the children to show parents and relatives the wonderful work being
undertaken here at Our Lady of the Missions.

Pamper Evening
The PSA would like to thank everyone who supported the recently held
Pamper Evening. It was an opportunity for mums and friends of the
school to meet, relax and have a fun evening enjoying the various
therapies and beauty treatments on offer. |
Art Exhibition
Visit Eastwood Park Theatre on Wednesday 19th May to see the
wonderful art work produced by Primary 6b. They have been working
with a visiting artist, Lesley Smith, to further develop their skills in
Still Life drawing and painting. They have been studying the style
and work of Paul Telford. |
| East Renfrewshire Council Active Schools Netball Tournament
Primary 7 boys and girls took part in the above. They had a great
time and brought back a fabulous trophy! |

Choices for Life
Primary 7 had a great time at the Choices for Life
Concert at the SECC. There were real life scenarios acted out by
PACE Drama School and various bands to help Primary 7 understand that
they will have difficult choices to make as they grow up, for
instance peer pressure regarding alcohol and substance abuse. The
powerful messages helped them to think about the dangers they may
encounter.

Renfrewshire & Inverclyde Association of
Burns Clubs
Six pupils from Primary 5 and 7 took part in the Regional Primary
Schools Competition in Paisley on 16 March. Having already competed
at school level, they not only performed well in their individual
sections but came away with an impressive amount of silverware.
Jennifer C, Lewis S and Flora McN took part in the Recitation section.
Niamh D won First Prize in the Instrumental Primary 4 & 5 section.
Jonathan B won Second Prize in the Instrumental Primary 6 & 7 section
and Ciera D won First Prize in the same section. Ciera won a trophy for
the best Instrumentalist and also a new trophy for the best overall
competitor. Ciera and Niamh will now go forward to the National
Primary Schools Festival hosted by the Robert Burns World
Federation.

Competition and won first prize!
The event was organised by Ken Macintosh MSP and Jim Murphy MP.

East Renfrewshire Cross Country
Pupils from Primary
6 and 7 took part in the East Renfrewshire Cross Country Championships.
They really enjoyed taking part and were very successful.
The boys' team came 3rd overall and were each awarded a bronze medal.
The girls' team came 1st overall and were each awarded a gold mental.
Phoebe R did particularly well. Out of 71 girls she
came second. Congratulations to all the boys and girls who took
part.

Primary 7 took part in a Holocaust Art workshop with
Jewish Artist Akiea Segan.
This was part of our topic and for our Holocaust Memorial week.

As part of the Alive O programme in Religious Education Primary 6
have been exploring how we can live as members of the Church at work.
Volunteer parents came to talk to the class about the work they do.
They shared their experiences with he pupils and answered lots of
interesting questions about their workplace. |

Green Flag
Congratulations to the Eco committee, Mrs Martin,
pupils and staff on achieving their third Green Flag! Two
inspectors were shown round the school and were very impressed by what
they saw. Our Lady of the Missions strives to be an Eco Friendly School.

Enya's family was delighted to hand over the enormous cheque for
£47,160.12 to staff from Ward 61 at the Southern General Hospital
on behalf of the Enya Doohan appeal. |
|
Primary 5-7 senior choir and musicians entertained their grandparents at
our St Andrew's Day Homecoming Celebration. We were delighted to
welcome back pupils from St Ninians ensemble. The grandparents had
a fabulous afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the tea and shortbread
afterwards.

On Wednesday
21st October Primary 4 went to see the launch of the HMS
Defender on the River Clyde.
It was launched from BVT's shipyard at Govan.
More than 13,000 people were there to see it.

Go Greener
The Go Greener award
was presented to Our Lady of The Missions Primary on Thursday
24th September by Councillor Eddie Phillips and Glyn Jones from
Go Greener. organisation .The awards were only given to 12
schools in East Renfrewshire for being outstanding in their
effort in being Eco friendly.Thanks to the pupils on our Eco
Committee for all their hard work! |

As part of our
transition programme, our Primary One parents were invited to
school to "Meet the Teacher". Many parents were able to attend
and enjoyed having the opportunity to speak to their child's
teacher in an informal way. They were able to ask questions
about any issues or concerns and were given information and
advice on curricular areas, PE routines and homework
activities.
Feedback from
parents and staff was extremely positive. Parents felt more
informed and reassured and were glad to be able to put a face to
the names of these important new people in their child's life!!

Welcome back!
It is a pleasure to welcome everyone at the start of a new
session. We look forward to working closely with you to making
this a happy and successful year for the children and staff of Our
