Curriculum
for Excellence Conference
On
Wednesday 10th June Springhill Primary held a Curriculum for Excellence
Conference. Parent and carers had the opportunity to join their children
and experience their learning in a day of active pupil-led workshops. Mrs
Mhairi Shaw, the Head of Education Services (Learning, Teaching and Quality
Improvement) attended as a guest speaker.
Here are some examples of the
workshops that were available.
P1
– Playing in the Past
Our
workshop is all about people long ago. We visited the People’s Palace and set
up a “single-end” outside our classroom to learn about how people lived. We
are going to help you to learn about long ago through working together and
active tasks and you can visit our single-end house!
P1/2
- Mega Maths
We will be demonstrating
Active Learning in Maths. We will be working independently and in groups on a
variety of tasks. You will be able to play board games, use the interactive
whiteboard and practise your maths skills!
P3
– Our Brilliant Bodies!
We are going to tell you
about our scientific work on the human body. You will have the opportunity to
measure and record, play board games and carry out some research tasks using
active reading skills.
P4
– Marvellous Materials!
We are going to show you the
fascinating things we have been finding out about everyday materials. You will
have the chance to take part in some very interesting experiments and use your
knowledge to play some interactive games on the whiteboard.
P5
– Critical Thinking
During
this workshop, we will showcase different aspects of our active maths learning.
You will have the opportunity to practise your critical thinking skills, by
working on your own and working collaboratively with others. Do come and join
us, but be prepared – you will need to switch on your brain first!!
P6-
Maths Motivator
We
would like you to join our Active Maths workshop. Come along and take part in
our active games and tasks that we use on a daily basis. You will get the chance
to play some fun games and see the resources that we use. You might even want to
come back for more!
P7-
Pay the Cost – the Holocaust
We
are going to share with you our learning about the Holocaust. You will have the
opportunity to explore our findings and look more closely at our work, and be
quizzed on what you find out!
ICT
Suite (Workshop 1 only)
Come
and hear about and try out the activities that all of the children regularly
take part in to learn across the curriculum and develop their ICT skills.
Rainbow
Room (Workshop 2 only)
The
children in the rainbow Room will show you the different areas on the Learning
Centre. You will be able to look at lots of photos, play some games and join in
an activity.
