HOME
AND SCHOOL LINKS
It is policy of the school to encourage a happy relationship between home and
school. This relationship is seen as a partnership between the school and home.
Opportunities are given in Autumn and Spring each year for formal visits by
parents to the school and there is at least two ‘open’ days during the year
when parents can come and view the children at work. An interim report card is
issued in November and a full report card is issued in May each year. In
addition, samples of jotter work and pupil writing is sent home for parents to comment
upon, a minimum of four times each year. It is hoped that parents
will communicate with the school at all times about any matters concerning their
children. This invitation is repeated in every newsletter. Springhill Primary is
also a part of the Barrhead Cluster Schools, which builds links within the
community through staff with specially appointed remits.
Parents of new entries at
Primary 1 are invited to the school at suitable dates during the summer term so
that they can meet and talk to the Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher and class
teachers. The children are given an opportunity to visit their new
classrooms to become familiar with their new surroundings. At these
meetings, parents will meet members of the Parent Council, who we hope will
encourage parents to be interested in and involved in school activities.
We also try to arrange an opportunity for parents to meet with other staff such
as the school nurse, educational psychologist and school based social
worker. An early opportunity to see the class teachers of the new Primary
1 pupils is given to parents separately, so that the child's progress can be
discussed and any problems resolved. This is particularly helpful to
parents who have not previously had children in the school.
Parents are also given
the opportunity in June, to visit the cafeteria with their children to have
lunch and our school cook, is very pleased to encourage them. In the first
few weeks of the new term, Parents are invited to a series of meetings
with the Head Teacher. On these occasions, Mrs Glen will outline the whole
school policies on Reading and Mathematics and there are some practical examples
for parents to try for themselves.
On various occasions
throughout the year parents are invited to share in our Assemblies and to be
involved in class activities, also to help in Sports and class outings.
The school encourages parental involvement in Early Literacy. This
involves parents in reading stories, playing games and supporting activities,
which develop Language. During the session, we operate an Infant library for
P1-P3 pupils. This is a lending library to aid the promotion of early
reading skills and is well supported and run by volunteer parents. A
number of parents help in the school with many of these activities after they
have completed an enhanced disclosure check. Mrs Watson, Office Manager,
will assist any parent or carer who wishes any parent or carer who wishes to
undertake this process, if they contact her through the school office.
Parents who have been
granted a clear check to help in school and work with children, can also take
part in supporting staff with our extra curricular activities such as art,
netball, badminton, knitting club, bible club etc.
