We have started a link with a school in Malawi called Eliya Chimtengo after Miss Flaherty visited the school in the summer of 2007. The school is in the north of Malawi in an area called Dedza. It has many hills and can get quite cold at night.
Our Link School
The children who go to the school age between 7 and 18. It only has 8 members of staff altogether which means some teachers have about 200 – 250 pupils in their class.
Key facts about the school
Eliya Chimtengo’s largest class is: P1 with 246 pupils. Eliya Chimtengo’s smallest class is- P7 with 30 pupils. (The number of children decreases as they get older and leave to get a job.) St Marks Smallest Class is P1 With 16 pupils St Marks largest class is P4 with 28 pupils
Our Aims for the link
We hope to have a long lasting friendship between St. Marks and Eliya Chimtengo Primary School. Our key aims for the future are: Learn about Malawi, African culture. Improve our language work through pen pal letters. Continue to develop our skills as Global Citizens.
Costs
It costs £500 a year to continue our link and support our partner schools. The money from this goes toward postage to and from Malawi each term and training for teachers in Malawi. Our link is run by Link Community Development.
