Curriculum Primary
Education is a vital part of your child’s life and we at St Thomas’s are
very much aware of our responsibilities. We aim to promote the development of
skills, knowledge and understanding in the following curricular areas: We
achieve this aim by offering a broad and balanced curriculum based on the 5-14
National guidelines issued by the Scottish Office Education Department. These
guidelines ensure that all curricular areas are covered and that specific
targets are achieved as each child moves through the school. Our
school demands a high standard of progressive, efficient and caring teaching
from our staff and an equally high standard moves through the school. Our
school demands a high standard of progressive, efficient and caring teaching
from our staff and an equally high standard of academic work from our pupils. Assessment Continual
checks are made on every child’s progress to ensure that they are working to
the best to the of their ability. Information about progress is recorded,

Reporting to parents
These are two main
opportunities in the school year for you to discuss your child’s progress with
his/her class teacher. These are held around November and April/May. Parent’s
evenings usually start at the end of the school day and are appointment based. A
short written report is issued before the November evening and a more detailed
report is issued before the April/May evening. However, it is important that
communication about your child’s progress takes place throughout the year and
this is managed by giving homework on a regular basis. You are encouraged to
keep in regular contact with the school in order to help the staff monitor your
child’s progress. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the
staff as soon as possible and they will be glad to assist you in whatever way
possible.
