Course Content Business Management

Business education has a key role in the curriculum of schools and colleges because of the importance of business and enterprise in our society today. This course offers you an introduction to the business world and enables you to understand the role and operation of business. It will also help you to develop problem solving skills and improve your personal effectiveness.

 

Course Outline

The course consists of three compulsory 40 hour units plus 40 hours flexible time.

 

Business Enterprise (40 hours)

Business in contemporary society

This section of the unit deals with

the role of business in society, sectors of activity, types of business organisations, methods of obtaining finance , business objectives , the role of the entrepreneur, stakeholders , changes in the business environment

 

Business information and ICT

This section of the unit deals with sources of information,types of information

uses of information in business, ICT in business, benefits and costs of ICT

 

Decision making

This section of the unit deals with types of decision, the decision making process

 

Business Decision Areas: Marketing and Operations (40 hours)

Marketing

This section of the unit deals with the marketing concept, the marketing mix, market research

Operations

This section of the unit deals with the role of operations in an organisation , elements of the operations function, types of operations, quality

 

Business Decision Areas: Finance and Human Resource Management (40 hours)

Financial management

This section of the unit deals with the role of the finance function,financial information,uses and users of financial information

Human resource management

This section of the unit deals with the role of human resource management in organisations, recruitment and selection, training and development  ,employee relations, legislative requirements, such as equal opportunities and health and safety

 

Course Content Administration

The practical approach used in this course makes it an excellent preparation for a career in administration. You will learn to carry out administrative tasks and acquire skills in processing, sorting, checking, storing and outputting information in a modern organisational environment. These skills will help to develop your own personal effectiveness.

Administrative Services (40 Hours)

In this unit you will learn:

about the duties and qualities of an administrative assistant, safe and secure working practices and contracts of employment, of the role of Sales, Purchasing, Finance and Human Resource departments, to organise business travel and accommodation arrangements, of the uses of the internet and office technologies.

Information Technology for Administrators (40 Hours)

In this unit you will learn how to use the following software applications:

Spreadsheets, flat databases, word processing

Administration: Presenting and Communicating Information (40 hours)

This unit should enable you to, use the internet to search for and extract information, use ICT (e-mail, e-diary, and word processing documents) to present and communicate information, use presentation software to present and communicate information

 

Successful completion of this course may lead to:
