Course Content in S3 and S4

The department will be offering Intermediate 1 and 2 courses over two years. The course provides a balance between creative drama and practical theatre activities.

The course is divided into three units.

1. Theatre Production Skills

In this unit students will develop some knowledge and understanding of the art of theatre and how it can be used in performance. We focus on the exploration and acquisition of play appreciation skills and other key skills of theatre and production. These will include:

Acting

Directing

Costume

Lighting

Sound

Set Design

Stage Management

2. Drama Skills

This will involve students using a variety of drama skills, forms and structures in the dramatic investigation and exploration of a theme, issue or topic, Within this exploration, students will take individual responsibility for devising and directing a short scene using other members of the group, and evaluate both the ongoing process and the final product. Students will also act in each other's short scenes.

3. Drama: Production

This unit allows the student to combine and use the skills acquired in the first two units. Students will work on the production of a scripted drama, applying the skills of acting and production in order to rehearse and perform the play to an audience.
