Homework

S1 and S2 are issued with weekly reading booklets and/or follow up work. In addition, pupils will be expected to learn vocabulary from their topic vocabulary packs every night.

Every S1 and S2 pupil is given a topic vocabulary pack. This pack contains information about homework, assessments and learning outcomes.

S3 and S4 are issued with practice exam questions. Vocabulary lists are also issued for each topic. Pupils are expected to learn these lists.

We would encourage pupils to have dictionaries. This will greatly help them with homework.

Careers

Having a qualification in a Modern Language will allow you to study a language at University or College as part of a course in, for example:

Travel or Tourism

Marketing or Business and Language

Law with a Language

Engineering and Language

Many courses allow you to spend part of your time studying abroad!

You will also be able to choose a career in:

Journalism

Broadcasting

The Armed Forces

Teaching

Banking

Export Sales and Marketing

Publishing

The Civil Service

Interpreting and Translating

Secretarial Work

Tourism - as a Holiday Rep. or as one of the Cabin Crew on a plane or ferry etc.

Assessment

Access

Internal Assessment only. This means you can see your own progress and achievements as you go along and you do not have to worry about a 'big' exam in May.

There is no assessment of Writing so you can concentrate on Speaking, Reading and Listening

Intermediate 1

A mixture of Internal and External Assessment, and what you achieve in Speaking internally/in class is worth 30% of your final External award. In the External exam Reading is worth 35%, Listening 20% and Writing 15%.

Intermediate 2

Also a mixture of Internal and External Assessment.

Speaking - like Intermediate 1 this counts for both Internal and External assessment.

It is worth 30% of the final External award, but you'll be able to choose your own topic for presentation and discussion.
