Departmental Aims

The aims of the department reflect the requirements

of Design & Technology Education at all levels

and are consistent with National, Local Authority

and whole school policy.

These are :-

· To cater for the differing needs of all the pupils who participate in Design & Technology.

· To provide a safe and healthy working environment for both pupils and staff.

· To provide courses which are both stimulating and enjoyable.

· To allow all pupils to develop an understanding of technologies and their impact on society - in the past, present and future.

· To allow all pupils to apply knowledge, understanding and practical skills to design and create products, processes and solutions that meet needs in play, work and daily life.

· To allow all pupils to gain the confidence and skills to embrace and use technologies now and in the future.

· To allow all pupils to evaluate technological processes and products critically and constructively, taking account of cultural, ethical, environmental and economic factors.

· To allow all pupils to experience work-related learning and for some, establish the foundation for more advanced learning and careers in the technologies.

· To aid pupils in developing personal attributes and to be aware of their influences on their peers.

· To aid the development and extend the skills of the members of the department, NQTs and visiting students.

· To implement whole school policy, throughout the curriculum, liaison with management and pastoral support and by good practice.
