| Create an Active Bookmark | ||
| To celebrate World Book Day in March your February challenge is to devise an active bookmark to bring the humble book into the C21st. |

The function of the bookmark is to note where
the reader stopped reading.
It can be any old scrap of paper that comes to hand, a leather strip made for the job or, if you are very rich, a jewel encrusted paper clip. You have seen bookmarks as souvenirs from museums, art galleries and holiday destinations. Now is the time to bring the bookmark up to date. |

Think of the mobile phone. Twenty years ago it was the size, and weight, of a brick and only used by a very few.
Over the decades the "mobie" has evolved into a wafer thin object that allows you to telephone, text, link to your home phone and computer, play music, take photos and is owned by almost a third of the world’s population.
|
So --- what can nanotechnology do for the bookmark? What can you come up with that would transform a page marker into something that would make reading easier and more enjoyable for the reader? For starters --- a built-in dictionary, magnifier for older readers, facility to note quotes, ---. Think about yourself as a reader and what you would find useful. Ask your parent / carer what they would like on an active bookmark.

| Design your bookmark for the twenty-first century, listing its wonderful features to make reading an even greater pleasure, and present your design and unique features to your English teacher by the end of February. | ||
